Learn more about solutions to protect your home, business, and community. Removing leaves and other debris from clogged gutters and downspouts can prevent water from pooling around a building's foundation.

Most personal protection measures will require permits from a local floodplain manager. Community adaptation efforts can reduce flood risk and lower the costs of flood insurance, and communities may have their own hazard mitigation programs, tax incentives or rebates.

A form of "dry flood-proofing," coatings and sealants that you apply to your foundation, walls, windows and doorways will help prevent flood water from leaking into your house through cracks or penetrations where utilities may come through. Sealants should meet ANSI standards. Choosing flooring for the first level of the house that is made of ceramic tile with water-resistant mortar, interlocking tile, concrete, or other nonporous materials can help reduce damage in the event of a flood.

Sandbags can prevent or reduce flood water by acting as a barrier to divert moving water around, instead of through, buildings. Sandbags are most effective when used with plastic sheeting and stacked like bricks to form a wall.

Many communities offer free sandbags when flooding is imminent. Rain barrels are containers connected to gutter downspouts that collect runoff from a building's roof, reducing minor flood risks. They range in size from 30 to gallons, can be made of plastic or wood, and the collected rainwater can be used for activities like gardening or car washing.

By adjusting the slope grade around a building's foundation, water can more easily flow away from the building. Regrading may be especially effective for older homes where the grade around it may have settled over time. We relocated to San Antonio, TX. Karr has given my son the background to continue to achieve as an honor student at Byron Steele High School. My son, Sheldon McClain is a class of student who has graduated early. I do remeber while at Karr 7th Grade Sheldon tried out for the football team and was not chosen by Coach Foret.

When we got to TX 8th grade they quickly picked up on his talents. He has been extremely successful academically and athletically, which has earned him scholarships to numerous Division 1 Universities.

He his presently enrolled at the University of Oklahoma Go Sooners. Karr HS-thanks for the start. Parent Review 11y ago. Mcdonogh 35 Senior High School.

No reviews available for this school. Benjamin Franklin High School. My son and I experience at Ben Franklin was a horrible one. By the time Ben Franklin put him out over 1 point my son was discouraged and felt like a failure.

They expect you the students to have no need to be taught. They treat you as if , since you got in then you should know the work. Your kid is nothing more than a number to them. They have no tolerance for the kids that has to be taught. My sons freshmen year he had physics, no middle school in New Orleans teaches physics, so why believe this is something he should know. Before attending Ben Franklin my son never received anything less than an A, by the the time they kicked him out he was barley passing to the next grade.

Thank God my son got into a school that welcomed him with open arms, now he has all IB classes and has recently scored a 28 on ACT practice test. What Ben Franklin needs to understand is that a lot of these kids come from failing schools and still needs to be taught. Even if they don't come from failing schools they still need to be taught.

Come on Ben Franklin, you have all these high scholar teachers. Let them teach. But know this with or without Ben Franklin my son will go on to be something great. Oh yeah, your fees suck! Parent Review 6y ago. Both my daughters have attended since Pre kindergarten and I have grown to love the school. Ben Franklin is a family of parents, teachers and administrators who care about the success of every child who attends the school. Every year they have made improvements to make the school a better environment for the kids.

My daughters will stay through middle school. My kid excels here the teachers care about the students, only complaints i hear about is the cafeteria food. Parent Review 9y ago. Einstein Charter School. School is an "Anti-Bullying" school and I know if kids who have been bullied, parents have reported it and the administration has done nothing about it.

They fire good teachers and principals then hire people they know who have no prior teaching experience. Our kids are suffering due the change in staff and curriculum.

My daughter hasn't had homework in a month all because they have put the 7th graders on an online learning program which no one is holding the teachers accountable for staying on top of students. They lie just to appease parents for a short moment. Un trustworthy and discriminatory staff. Do NOT send your children here. They treat them like prisoners escorting them to the restroom. It's Horrible. A failing school, a failing school district, led by crooks!!!

Parent Review 2y ago. Audubon Charter School. My son now in his second year at Audubon Charter French. I can see that the staff is excellent with the kids, and really care about their well-being. There is a cultural difference with some of the teaches that some may find off-putting, but it has never been a problem for us. My only real complaint has been a lack of communication and organization from the administration. But ACS makes up for it in every other area.

All in all, we are very happy at Audubon. Robert Russa Moton Charter School. I love this school my 6 year old is reading beyond His grade level and more, my son Anthony Will pick up any thing and read it, and understand With he is reading, the teachers and staff take time With my son, Anthony have behavior problems But he is very smart and all the staff and teachers do there Part and understand and they never gave up on Him n will never Give up on him.
